Slayer, "Psychopathy Red"

Some internet metal bootleg crew got a hold of this new Slayer track, “Psychopathy,” from the band’s forthcoming 2009 album, and let it loose in the newsgroups, where I snapped it up. It kinda sounds like shit (definitely run through the internet’s digital grinder), but it’s an awesome song.

One of the things I love about Slayer is something that often annoys me about other bands — they don’t ever really change. Basically, with every Slayer song, you got two really gnarly guitar parts, a barely audible bass line, screaming vocal madness, and furious double-bass drum action. That’s pretty much the formula, and it’s always worked, so why mess with a good thing. Check it:

That guitar riff is amazing. Sure the Slay-boys dont change much but, like you said…who cares? You just cant touch Slayer. After almost 20 years of being a fan (unholy crap!) they still make me wanna lose my fxxking mind. Incredible. And Dave Lombardo is a really nice guy.

It’s funny that when Metallica tries to rev it back to the old days, it’s like ” aren’t they too old to be playing this shit?” But Slayer, same-ish age, might be the only band who is closing in on 50 and can still get away with it. Cuz Slayer rules…and people are afraid of them.
